Evan Wesley Currie is a native of Charlotte, NC, and a young accomplished concert organist and church musician. Prior to Myers Park, Mr. Currie served as Director of Music and Organist at Bridgewater United Methodist Church in Bridgewater, NJ, Organist of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Denver, NC, and as organist for The Second Presbyterian and Lee Road United Methodist Churches in Greenville, SC. At Myers Park, Mr. Currie oversees the Myers Park Strings ensemble, directs the successful Midday Music at Myers Park Series with over 25+ performances in the past two years, accompanies the Chancel and Chamber Choirs, and directs the Junior Choir, as well as provides music for all three worship services, funerals, and weddings.

Mr. Currie holds a BM (cum laude) in organ performance, with secondary concentrations in piano and vocal performance studies from Furman University ’16. He holds a MM in organ performance from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University ’18, and he was awarded the Arthur G. Humphrey Memorial Prize for outstanding work in keyboard performance from MGSA. He has completed additional performance studies at the Accademia d’ell Arte in Arezzo, Italy and served as an intern at The Juilliard School in New York City. His principal teachers include Renée Anne Louprette, Dr. Charles Tompkins, and Dr. John Siler (organ). Dr. Ruby Morgan (Piano), Dr. Trudy Hines Fuller and Lisa Barksdale (voice), and Dr. Rebecca Cypess (harpsichord).

As an accompanist and church musician in New York City metropolitan area, Mr. Currie worked with multiple choirs in New York and New Jersey such as Music Dulce at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the All Souls Professional Choir at All Souls Unitarian Church in NYC. He has concertized with the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey’s Summer Keyboard Festival and the Old West Organ Society of Boston MA, as well as the Arizona Music Festival Orchestra.

His concert career and studies have taken him throughout the United States, Canada, Scotland, Germany, and Italy. In June 2019, Mr. Currie spent 12 days touring Germany, studying and performing repertoire unique to each historic and specific instrument.

A prize-winning organist, Mr. Currie holds multiple awards and honors from several professional organizations. In July2019, Currie made his national debut as a returning E. Power Biggs Scholar (2018-2019) for the Organ Historical Society’s national convention in Dallas, Texas. In 2018, he competed in George Mathison Memorial performance competition and was awarded second prize by Brooklyn Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. In 2017, he received a full stipend to attend the Montreal Organ Festival and McGill Organ Summer Academy. During his studies at the institute, he was selected to participate in a master class for Olivier Latry, titular-organist of Notre-Dame of Paris.

Mr. Currie served on the executive board of the Charlotte Chapter of the American Guild of Organist, and the Furman Singers Alumni Association. He is a member of several chapters of the American Guild of Organist and European Guild, and is a member of the Organ Historical Society.

In his free time, Evan enjoys running, cooking, hiking, reading, and spending time with his family and niece, Ava Grace.
